Students are given homework on school nights, Monday through Thursday.  Students are expected to do half-an-hour of homework on these nights, no more and no less.

30 minutes:

1. Finish work from day’s in-class assignments

2. Complete homework sheet

3. Silent read for remainder of 30 minutes

4. Fill out reading sheet and get parent signaure

If the homework sheet takes too long, please sign the sheet for your child and it will be considered finished.  Generally speaking, I’d like each child to spend at least fifteen minutes of the homework time reading.  Further, I support parents making judgments as to whether the time has been used wisely.  Typically homework sheets aren’t too challenging and are meant for reinforcement of what we’re studying in class.

I expect students to fill out their At-Home-Reading Sheets to each night with a parent signature and turn in on Friday mornings.  Students who do this properly generally earn a bonus recess Friday morning.  This silent reading time should be used to work on at-home-projects such as book reports.

Please encourage your child to select an appropriate place to do his/her homework.  Preferably this will be a quiet, well-lit spot that’s out of sight of the television.  For the written work I’d like students to use a desk or table rather than their lap.
